Donatello’s art piece was donated by Lorenzo de’ Medici, at the end of the XVth century, to the owner of the building, the Count of Maddaloni: Diomede Carafa. The original artwork made in bronze, can be observed at the nearby MANN museum. Meanwhile in the Palazzo Carafa’s courtyard is kept a cast, that is now more than 200 years old, and from which the locals have given the palace its nickname: “o palazz’ d’a capa ‘e Cavallo”. Meaning, “the palace of the horse’s head”.
